Good Afternoon,

We know everyone is facing challenges due to the significant recent events in Northwest Indiana. This email is intended to provide you with information about how to navigate personnel and pay policy questions. At any time, please reach out to us with questions.

Due to severe weather and widespread power outages, the PNW – Hammond Campus was officially closed from noon on Tuesday, August 11, until 8 a.m. on Monday, August 17.

The PNW – Westville Campus continues to experience significant challenges with restoring power. Additional details regarding the Westville Campus will be shared as more information becomes available. Supervisors and employees are encouraged to discuss alternative work arrangements, including remote work options, to meet departmental business needs.

Employees will be paid as follows:

  • All Benefits Eligible Faculty and Staff will receive regular pay for time scheduled but not worked during the designated times of the campus closure.
  • Employees designated as essential personnel, who are required to work during the campus closure, will be paid at the regular rate plus time-and-one-half for all hours worked. Supervisors who have essential personnel who worked during the campus closure should contact Human Resources at X: 2251 for assistance with recording time in SuccessFactors.

Previously scheduled vacation or sick time during the campus closure should remain as originally approved in SuccessFactors.

If you have any additional questions, please refer to the Suspension of Operations due to Adverse Weather Procedures (Select “Adverse Weather”) or contact Kara Bohlinger, Director of Payroll and Compensation at X: 5557.

We hope you and your families are safe and doing well. We sincerely appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate these challenging times and continue to assist our students arriving on campus to begin their academic journey.

Thank you,

Jan Hanchar
