Purdue University Northwest (PNW) has been recognized as a “Best for Vets” university by Military Times, an independent news organization focused on the U.S. military community. This recognition acknowledges PNW’s commitment to supporting student veterans from application to graduation.

PNW was ranked second in the state of Indiana and 33rd in the Midwest out of 357 U.S. colleges and universities in Military Times’ 2025 rankings. The annual “Best for Vets” rankings evaluate higher education institutions nationwide based on academic quality, student support services, affordability and outcomes for veterans, including graduation and retention rates. PNW’s placement on the list reflects its welcoming campus community for military-affiliated students, comprehensive resources and dedicated programming that promote success for veterans and their families.

PNW’s Veteran Services program ensures a smooth transition from military life to academic success. The program fosters a supportive peer network and provides a wide range of resources for military-affiliated students, including: help in navigating admission and scholarship processes; 1:1 tutoring; post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury counseling; and community-building events, such as an annual Veterans Ball.

PNW offers dedicated veterans lounges on both its Hammond and Westville campuses that provide student veterans a welcoming space to meet and connect over shared experiences.

Recognized for its commitment to supporting military-affiliated students, PNW was designated a Collegiate Purple Star of Indiana institution by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. One of only 28 colleges and universities in the state to receive the distinction and one of just six institutions to be awarded Tier 1 status.
