Dealing with Students in Crisis

December 1, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

What would you do if a student told you she or he has trouble getting out of bed in the morning? What would you do if a student told you she or he wants to hurt themselves? Staff, advisors and faculty are on the front lines interacting with students and are often the first to encounter symptoms of a student mental health crisis.

The PNW Counseling Center has scheduled a training session that will cover strategies and PNW policies and procedures for dealing with students in crisis or on the road to crisis. Topics covered will include: spotting signs of a mental health crisis, when and how to refer to counseling, when to call police or emergency services and what to do if a student expresses suicidal ideation. Kenneth Jackson, Executive Director of the Counseling Center, and Ryan Parsons-Rozycki, Staff Therapist, will conduct the session.
