Types of Partnerships

Purdue Northwest works with international partners to boost global learning and academic opportunities. These collaborations create a richer, globally connected campus experience for everyone.

Student Exchange AgreementsAllows students to study abroad at partner institutions for a semester or academic year while earning PNW credit.
Faculty and Scholar Exchange AgreementsEnables collaborative teaching, research and professional development between PNW faculty and their international counterparts.
Research Collaboration AgreementsPromotes joint research projects and academic publications across borders.
Dual-Degree and Articulation AgreementsCreates structured pathways for international students to begin their studies at a partner institution and complete their degree at PNW.
Short-Term and Customized ProgramsOffers opportunities for study tours, internships or language immersion experiences tailored to specific academic or professional goals.
General Memorandum of UnderstandingA formal but non-binding agreement between two or more parties that outlines the broad terms and intentions of a cooperative relationship. It is often used to establish a mutual understanding before developing more detailed contracts or formal agreements.
Activity AgreementA specific type of agreement often used to outline the responsibilities, expectations and terms related to a particular collaborative academic or educational activity, especially short-term or one-time initiatives with domestic or international institutions.

Partnering with PNW

Interested in teaming up with Purdue Northwest for an international program or study abroad opportunity? Here’s a quick overview:

  1. Identify Areas of Shared Interests: A PNW department or unit and the Office of International Programs and Partnerships (IPP) collaborate to identify areas of shared academic or research goals.
  2. Submit a Proposal: Fill out the Restricted Persons or Parties Screening (RPS) form to outline your idea for collaboration.
  3. Review & Approval: IPP checks for regulatory and compliance requirements and processes Export Control. Once approved, formal discussions begin.
  4. Draft the Agreement: IPP works with both institutions to ensure collaborations are conducted responsibly and in alignment with university policies, then helps create an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Agreement.
  5. Finalize & Launch After both sides sign off, the partnership begins and planned activities roll out, with IPP supporting every step.
