Lockdown Drill for Hammond and Westville Campuses

All, we will be conducting a lockdown Drill at the Hammond and Westville campuses on October 25, 2023. The below mentioned buildings will be the only buildings drilled. We will announce the start of the drill by our ENS (PA) system. We will also announce the “all clear, resume normal activity” end of the drill by ENS (PA). All drills will take less than eight minutes.

If you do not hear the “Start Lockdown Drill” announcement by ENS, do not lockdown. In addition, if you hear the start announcement and lock down, do not remain in “lockdown status” for more than eight minutes. The drills offer faculty, staff and students the opportunity to plan and practice their response.

We hold several PNW Response to Active Shooter Training classes every semester at both campuses. We also have the video “Run, Hide, Fight” under Safety Tips and Resources on the PNW Police website. This five-minute video trains you to respond to an active shooter using our core concepts of “Run, Hide, Fight” which you should learn and utilize.

  • RUN – If the shooter is not in your building or vicinity you need to take a quick look and escape through the nearest exit. Once you exit the building run as far away from campus as you can. Do not come back until the PNW Police Department issues an “all clear”.
  • HIDE – If the shooter is in your area, you need to lock down and hide. Offices and instructional areas have locks on the doors. Lock the door and get low to the ground and away from windows. Turn off the lights and silence your cell phone.
  • FIGHT – If you are confronted by the active shooter you need to use an improvised weapon to stop the active shooter or distract and escape.

During our drill and for drill purposes only, we will lock down/hide only.
