Purdue University Northwest professor debuts play in Buenos Aires

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) faculty member José Castro-Urioste, Professor of Spanish in the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, was recently featured in the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) for the debut of his play, “Entre nos,” in Buenos Aires.

“Entre nos” engages memory loss and its effect on the family. It’s a one-person show in which the actress plays the roles of a grandmother, a mother and a niece, as well as a doctor. The grandma is the one suffering the malady; the mother fears a similar future, and the niece, a university student in neuroscience, looks for a possible solution.

“Entre nos” trata sobre la pérdida de la memoria y sus efectos en la familia. Es un unipersonal en el que la actriz interpreta los personajes de la abuela, la madre, y la nieta, como también a un doctor. La abuela es quien sufre la enfermedad; la madre teme tener un futuro equivalente; y la nieta, estudiante universitaria de neurociencias, busca una posible soluciόn.
About José Castro-Urioste
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay and raised in Peru, Castro-Urioste studied law and literature until 1988, when he received a bachelor’s degree in literature in Lima, Peru. In the later part of 1988, Castro-Urioste came to the United States, where he studied at the University of Pittsburgh and earned a master’s degree in 1990 and a doctorate in 1993 in literature. With his degrees, Castro-Urioste taught in Minnesota, New York and Pittsburgh before finally coming to PUC in 1998.
