Serving up Success: Meet 2025 PNW graduate Salma Raslan

May 1, 2025

Salma Raslan’s, ’25, interest in marketing didn’t start in the classroom. It began on the tennis court and led her to earn a bachelor of science degree in Marketing and a minor in Digital Marketing from the College of Business at Purdue University Northwest (PNW).

Growing up in Cairo, Egypt, Raslan discovered her passion for marketing as a junior tennis player. She was fascinated by the marketing staff filming practices and would speak with them about their efforts, often volunteering her help. “I loved the idea of marketing sports,” says Raslan. “That’s where it all began.”

As a four-year member of the PNW Pride women’s tennis team, Raslan was team captain for three consecutive years. She was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, having served as president and social media manager. She also managed the social media accounts for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.

During her time at PNW, Raslan was a member of the Marketing Club, Women in Business, the PNW chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, and completed two internships in the field of marketing.

After graduation, Raslan plans to pursue a master’s degree in Digital Media. Looking ahead, she hopes to combine her interests in marketing and sports for a career in sports media, with the goal of working for the tennis tour or the National Basketball Association.

What did you like most about PNW?

“I would say the people. Everyone was so welcoming and the connections I built here were something I didn’t see coming. I didn’t think I would build such a strong network. It’s been an amazing experience.”

What did you like about the Marketing program at PNW?

“The exposure and the opportunities the College of Business provides. They expose us to professionals in the marketing industry with guest speakers, site visits and hands-on experiences. How do you think your involvement in campus organizations and activities helped define your success at PNW?

“It helped me grow as a person. I learned to communicate better with people who have different perspectives and approaches. These lessons are endless and will help me in the future by being open to change. Throughout my four years here, I’ve learned that mistakes are an important part of how you grow.”

What words of advice would you share with prospective students looking to attend PNW?

“There is a quote I like, ‘go through what you go through.’ Just learn and grow from your experiences good and bad. Work to be your best self from the first day.”

Was there anyone at PNW who inspired or encouraged you along the way?
