Dear Colleagues:

I would like to echo the Chancellor’s recent messages and express my hope that everyone is continuing to remain safe as we recover from last week’s severe weather. I am grateful for the many ways faculty and staff members have been supporting one another, which is a testament to the strength of our academic community.

As we enter what is usually an exciting time—the beginning of the new academic year—and welcome students into our classrooms, I encourage us to keep in mind the students and other members of our campus community who are continuing to experience significant effects from the recent severe weather.

While many are eager to start the new year, others may still be facing personal and professional challenges related to power restoration, internet access, transportation, caregiving and other recovery efforts. Because of this, there may be a disproportionate number of students who register late next week. The last day to register is Friday, August 28, 2026, by 4:30 p.m.

I ask that you please continue to approach the start of the semester with flexibility, understanding and grace, especially for our students.  They look to us for guidance and support, particularly during times of uncertainty. By demonstrating empathy and compassion, we reaffirm our commitment to student success and embody the values that define Purdue University Northwest. As we permit students to register after classes begin, we must remain committed to providing the support they need.

Thank you for your partnership as we begin a new academic year. Together, we will help ensure that every student has the opportunity to start the semester on the strongest footing possible, regardless of the unprecedented disruptions affecting the entire region.

Sincerely,

Marie Mora
