    AIST Welcomes CIVS Students at Midwest Chapter Dinner

    On February 15th, a total of 24 CIVS undergraduate and graduate research students along with faculty mentors attended the AIST Midwest Member Chapter Dinner at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville.

    Virtual Die Casting Simulator Disseminated to NADCA Members

    CIVS Researcher John "Jack" Moreland presented the final report for the Virtual Die Casting Simulator on February 2, 2023, at the NADCA Research & Development Committee meeting held at the University of California, Irvine. The presentation was a hybrid (in-person and virtual) and included attendees from the die-casting industry, academia, and government organizations.

    NSF RET Summer Program Returns for STEM Teachers

    After a highly successful Research Experience for Teachers (RET) Program in 2021 & 2022, CIVS will again open its doors to High School and Community College teachers in the summer of 2023. The RET Program, sponsored by National Science Foundation through a three-year grant, will take place from June 12th – July 21st, 2023

    Virtual Die Casting Simulator Development Reaches Final Stages

    Beau Glim, Project Manager at North American Die Casting Association (NADCA), visited CIVS on January 25th to provide feedback to students Cristina Cabascango and James Dunlap, as well as CIVS researcher John Moreland, who are putting the finishing touches on the Virtual Die Casting Simulator.

    Groundwork Established for New Simulation Project

    CIVS researchers began establishing the groundwork for a new crane training simulator by gathering some initial photo and video reference materials at U. S. Steel Gary Works. This step provides the foundation for a customizable simulator available to SMSVC members, helping to improve overall crane operational efficiency and safety.
