Applications are submitted online to the Indiana Department of Education at the following link: at https://license.doe.in.gov/

Candidates in our degree-seeking programs (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or Graduate Special Education) are eligible to apply for their Indiana professional educator license after all of the following has occurred:

Their degree has been awarded and reflects in the portal
They have passed both the required pedagogy exam AND the required content area exam(s)
They have completed suicide prevention training
They have current, valid CPR/AED certification

Candidates in our non degree-seeking, licensure-only graduate programs (Transition to Teach or Special Education) are eligible to apply after all of the following has occurred:

They have completed all required courses and a passing grade for student teaching/internship has been awarded and reflects in the portal
They have passed both the required pedagogy exam AND the required content area exam(s)
They have completed suicide prevention training
They have current, valid CPR/AED certification

Complete applications are typically reviewed and processed within 4-6 weeks after submission to LVIS. However, if any materials are missing the process will be delayed until all required materials have been submitted either to the Indiana Department of Education or to the licensing officer.

Statement on Licensure

The School of Education and Counseling at Purdue University Northwest offers programs in education and counseling based on the state of Indiana’s requirements for licensure for classroom teachers, licensed mental health counselors, and school counselors.

As part of the NASDTEC, the state of Indiana has teacher reciprocity agreements with 46 states. However, counseling candidates must meet the qualifications of the state in which they are located. Candidates are encouraged to contact the state agency or other regulatory body responsible for determining the state’s requirements for certification and/or licensure.
