Campus Closure and Essential Personnel Frequently Asked Questions
During a campus closure, essential personnel will be required to work in order to provide the minimum level of service on campus. Below are answers to frequently asked questions when this occurs.
Essential Personnel Designation Form
Employees pre-designated as Essential Employees should communicate with their supervisor regarding schedule, work responsibilities, campus location and make reasonable efforts to report to campus. If you do not report to work as directed by your supervisor, you may be required to take the time as unpaid or use your available paid time off. If circumstances prevent you from reporting to work despite making reasonable efforts, please contact your supervisor as soon as possible.
Non-essential employees who can work remotely should, and they will be paid at their regular rate. Non-essential employees who report to work should be sent home. Non-essential employees who cannot work remotely are not expected to work.
Essential Personnel are employees who are required to report to a campus location to support essential operations and maintain a minimum level of services.
- All Benefits Eligible Faculty and Staff will receive regular pay for time scheduled but not worked during the designated times of the campus closure. Non-essential employees who can work remotely should do so, and they will be paid at their regular rate.
- Exempt (monthly paid) employees designated as essential personnel, who are required to report to campus during the campus closure, will be paid at their regular rate of pay.
- Non-Exempt (hourly paid) employees designated as essential personnel, who are required to report to campus to work during the campus closure, will be paid at the regular rate plus time-and-one-half for all hours worked.
- Previously scheduled vacation or sick time during the campus closure should remain as originally approved in SuccessFactors.

No, if a temporary or student employee does not work due to a suspension of University operations, they are not paid.
