PNW students are joined by faculty and staff and members of the U.S. Postal Service outside the Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building. Supported by external and internal funding sources, 50 PNW students were able to successfully register for their first U.S. passports.

A total of 50 Purdue University Northwest (PNW) students will be able to enhance their academic journeys through global engagement opportunities thanks to generous funding that has supported their registrations for U.S. passports.

In December, PNW’s office of International Programs and Partnerships hosted a Passport Fair event in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service to assist PNW students in registering for their U.S. passports. Through a grant sponsored by the Institute of International Education (IIE), 25 PNW students were supported in obtaining these essential resources to unlock international travel and learning.

“Securing this funding ensures that more of our students, especially those who may not have considered international experiences, now have the chance to step confidently into the global arena,” said Ramesh Neupane, director of International Programs and Partnerships. “We believe that global engagement should be accessible to every student. By helping our students secure their first passport, we are opening doors to experiences that can transform their academic journeys and their lives. A passport is more than a document — it is a symbol of possibility, confidence and the beginning of a student’s global story.”

Further demonstrating PNW’s commitment to fostering global engagement, PNW’s office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs generously matched the IIE’s grant, enabling an additional 25 PNW students to receive full passport sponsorship.

“I am delighted and proud we are able to support our students in obtaining their first passports and unlock essentially endless possibilities for lifechanging experiences,” said Marie T. Mora, PNW provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “This type of support is an investment in the academic, professional and personal growth of our students. Having a passport will provide firsthand opportunities to broaden their professional and personal perspectives, build intercultural knowledge and skills and prepare for the next stage of their academic and professional journeys in an increasingly interconnected world.”

PNW’s office of International Programs and Partnerships administers and organizes multiple Study Away programs for PNW students to engage in. These for-credit opportunities can range from short-term seminars integrated into coursework to year-long exchanges with other higher education institutions around the world.
