Crane Training Solutions Presented at AIST Crane Symposium

On June 11, Rohit Kovvuri (CIVS Research Engineer) presented at the AIST Crane Symposium in Indianapolis, IN. His presentation was titled “Effective Training Solutions for New Crane Operators”. Co-authors include Kyle Toth (CIVS Senior Research Engineer), John Moreland (CIVS Senior Research Scientist), Chenn Zhou (CIVS Director), Henry Mitchell (Charter Steel), and Jeffrey Maxfield (U.S. Steel). This project focuses on training new crane operators in iron and steel plants using virtual simulations and microcontrollers. It lets users interact with a digital version of a crane to learn key skills like lifting, swinging, and dumping in a safe, hands-on way. The goal is to speed up learning and prepare operators for real-world tasks through realistic, on-site practice. Over 250 people were in attendance for his presentation.
The AIST Crane Symposium is a premier event dedicated to the latest innovations, challenges, and best practices in crane technology within the steel manufacturing industry. With a focus on the integration of Industry 4.0, this symposium provides a platform for industry experts, engineers and decision-makers to explore cutting-edge advancements in crane modernization, electrification, automation and sustainability.
