group of middle school studentsOver 20 students from Hobart Middle School’s Computer Science class toured CIVS on October 14. CIVS Sr. Research Scientist John “Jack” Moreland discussed how computer science ties into simulation & visualization, and real-world applications like steel industry simulations and developing VR and virtual training. Students did demos in the Visualization lab on the crane simulator, steel wheel, and virtual safety training in a steel plant. Their teacher, Mrs. Moreland organized the visit for her students to engage and learn about real-world technology developed at CIVS. Mrs. Moreland was a previous teacher involved in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program held at CIVS in previous summers.
