Nucor CFD Experts Have Successful Visit to CIVS

CIVS was pleased to welcome Mark Davis, Rod Dry, and Eugene Pretorious from Nucor during the first two weeks of September. Mark, a CFD expert, and Rod, a process specialist, traveled from Perth, Australia, where they are actively engaged in Nucor’s HIsarna work. Eugene, based in South Carolina, is Nucor’s Manager of Steelmaking Technology.

The visit focused on Nucor’s role in the HIsarna project, an innovative ironmaking process designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. During their time at CIVS, they collaborated closely with the CIVS team on advanced modeling and process discussions. They also had valuable conversations about future developments and potential joint efforts to further HIsarna research.

Thank you to Mark, Rod, and Eugene for their expertise and energy in educating the CIVS team on the HIsarna process and the top-space CFD model developed to simulate these complex physics. As a positive addition to the visit, CIVS was also honored to have Mark as a guest lecturer for CIVS Director Chenn Zhou’s CFD graduate course at PNW.
