Ty Okosun Highlighted CIVS and SMSVC Research Projects at Charter Steel

On December 8, CIVS Associate Director for Research Ty Okosun visited Charter Steel to highlight and discuss CIVS and SMSVC research projects to the Innovative Technology Council.

The presentation showcased how CIVS and SMSVC support the steel industry through applied research and advanced modeling, with a focus on electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking operations and ironmaking technologies. Charter Steel leaders expressed strong interest in CIVS and SMSVC projects and research on Direct Reduction Ironmaking (DRI) furnaces and alternative, low-carbon ironmaking pathways.

The visit reinforced CIVS and SMSVC’s role as trusted research partners, delivering industry-driven solutions that advance innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in steel manufacturing. Charter Steel is a member company of the SMSVC.
