CIVS Demonstrates Virtual Die Casting Training at NADCA Congress & Tabletop

On September 29-October 1, CIVS Senior Research Scientist John Moreland, demonstrated Virtual Die Casting Training and other VR applications at the NADCA – 2026 Congress & Tabletop, held at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Michigan. CIVS partnered with the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) to develop the Die Casting Training Simulator for new operators to shorten the amount of time needed before they can start producing castings on the shop floor. The simulator also provides various scenarios for operators to practice troubleshooting and see inside the machine to get a better understanding of how the machine settings affect the quality of the casting.
The Fire Safety Simulator was developed to provide virtual hands-on experience dealing with various types of fires that could be encountered and helps personnel recognize which types of fire extinguishers need to be used for different types of fires. Both simulators run on VR Headsets and are available to NADCA Members.
CIVS demonstrated additional VR applications as well, including a newly developed virtual tour application for manufacturing facilities, useful for recruiting and outreach. The VR tour application combines 360-degree video of facilities with interactive elements and interviews with personnel describing their jobs, career paths, and suggestions for students interested in pursuing a variety of careers in the manufacturing sector.
NADCA is comprised of Individual and Corporate Members focused on educating audiences on the importance of the die casting industry. The Congress & Tabletop events help demonstrate innovative resources and practical solutions to help address technical, operational, and business challenges. (https://www.diecasting.org/)
The Die Casting Training Simulator and NADCA Fire Safety Simulator were developed with support from the Defense Logistics Agency and the Harvill Foundation respectively.
