Professor Okosun gave a presentation discussing blast furnace modeling research conducted at CIVS in collaboration with Cleveland-Cliffs Burns Harbor on the “Impacts of Natural Gas Delivery Strategies on Blast Furnace Performance.”  The meeting was facilitated by committee chair Jesse Carreau of Allied Mineral Technical Services and AIST Staff Engineer Charlie Bender.

The committee meeting also included other presentations such as “U. S. Steel’s Granite City Blast Furnace B startup,” “Ceramic Burner Optimization,” and “Unplanned Castable Repairs to Hot Blast Stoves.” In addition to the presentations, members in attendance began the process of planning for AISTech 2027, discussing paper submissions, technology committee award details, and collaborative work with other AIST committees. Committee members discussed an ongoing effort by key members to establish pathways to Blast Furnace-based Decarbonization, and the meeting concluded with presentations from various members on technical topics of interest to the industry.

The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) is a non-profit organization with 18,500 members from more than 70 countries. With 29 Technology Committees representing all facets of the iron and steel manufacturing process and 22 Local Member Chapters spread across six continents, AIST represents an incomparable network of steel knowledge and expertise. The mission of the AIST Ironmaking Technology Committee is to provide members with information regarding ironmaking manufacturing, including developing technologies, maintenance, and process and operating information.
