CIVS Demos for Boy Scouts and NWI Middle School Students

January 27, 2020

Boy Scout Troop 276 was excited to learn advanced technologies at CIVS on January 21.

CIVS graduate research assistants Joel Godinez and Lei Zhou had close interactions with the students.  Joel discussed simulation and visualization and how they can be used together to solve real world problems. Most of the projects at CIVS are involved with partnering organizations and the Scouts were able to see examples of how much money these project saved and other outcomes. Lei opened the blast furnace application to show how the HoloLens can help in steel industry. Finally, the Troop got to utilize the Oculus Rift S VR system. The students had a blast demoing the game Beat Saber one by one.

On February 24, around 120 Middle School Students from Northwest Indiana also had a great time at CIVS. CIVS Student Worker, Luis Raygadas presented several CIVS project demos and explained the purposes of Virtual Reality development. The event was organized by Rotary to inspire young students to study and work in the STEM fields.

Advanced simulation and visualization are an essential part of innovation for our future, CIVS is all about making new things better,” -Joel Godinez
