On November 23rd, 2021, CIVS attends the virtual project kick-off meeting with Cleveland-Cliffs Toledo team members on simulation of their HBI facility. Stuart Street, Technical Manager Ironmaking at Cleveland-Cliffs, hosts the meeting and welcome the attendees from Toledo Iron Units and Purdue Northwest CIVS, including Greg Diefenthaler, Senior Process Engineer at Toledo Iron Units; Lisa Young, Process Engineer at Toledo Iron Units; Tyamo Okosun, Research Associate Professor at CIVS; Samuel Nielson and John Rosser, Graduate Research Assistants at CIVS. This kick-off meeting is for the “Study of Phenomena in the Cleveland Cliffs Toledo HBI Plant” project. The purpose of the meeting was to establish the workings of the facility for the project simulation team, to determine what drawings and data was needed from Cleveland-Cliffs personnel, and to set forth the parameters required for simulation.

The project kick-off was a success, with detailed discussion shared between Cliffs & CIVS personnel and a plan laid out for information sharing and simulation setup moving forward.
