CIVS Students Get Industry Exposure at AIST Kickoff Dinner Meeting

CIVS graduate students had the opportunity to attend the AIST Kickoff Dinner Meeting. The keynote presentation was given by David Burritt, the President, and CEO of the United States Steel Corporation. Dave Burritt presented initiatives for decarbonization, the evolution of the workplace, and U. S. Steel’s strategy. U. S. Steel is a member of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium. SMSVC is a nationwide industry-led sustainable consortium founded by CIVS in 2016.

“The AIST Kickoff Dinner was a great opportunity to network with people throughout the steel industry and listen to the CEO of US Steel discuss the future of the industry, and answer questions from attendees,” said John Rosser, graduate research assistant and first-place winner of the 2022 AIST graduate student poster contest.

They also learned about scholarship opportunities from the AIST Midwest Chapter. The scholarship opportunities work towards the mission of advancing the iron and steel industry, and we must continue to support the rising generation of steel industry professionals.

The AIST Kickoff Dinner on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022 took place at Avalon Manor in Merrillville. Graduate students in attendance were Chukwunedum Uzor, Syed Imran, Neel Busa, Rashed Al Manasir, John Rosser, Cristina Cabascango, Paven Vemula, Ninad Patil, and Mingqiang Wang along with Dr. Chenn Zhou and Research Associate Professor, Tyamo Okosun.
