Jay Gore, Reilly University Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, gave a talk at the CIVS Friday Seminar on September 10, 2021. The topic is “Exergy Considerations in Steel Manufacturing”.  More than 40 CIVS research students, staff, and faculty attended the seminar.  Dr. Gore discussed the exergy analysis of the materials processing methods and qualitative exergy enhancement. After the seminar, CIVS demonstrated project examples, which integrate simulation and visualization to solve real-world problems in partnerships with the industry. Dr. Jay Gore highly praised the achievements of CIVS, and express interest in future collaboration with CIVS.

Gore focuses on energy and combustion with maximum utilization of resources. Honored with awards such as the Presidential Young Investigator award for maximizing the efficiency of radiant heaters for manufacturing, he is a co-author of the 1987 Best Paper in ASME Heat Transfer literature, he is a Fellow of the ASME, the AIAA, and the International Combustion Institute. He was recognized for teamwork in founding the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program within the College of Engineering at Purdue.  He also served as the founding Director of the Energy Center in Discovery Park at Purdue.  Jay has served as an Associate Editor for the AIAA Journal and the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer.
