Virtual Die Casting Simulator at 2021 AMC Technology Review

CIVS Researcher John (Jack) Moreland gave a presentation entitled “High Pressure Die Casting Process Modeling and Simulation Development for the Shop Floor” at the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) Technology Review. During the presentation, Jack presented CIVS’s ongoing Virtual Die Casting Simulator, which it has been developing in collaboration with NADCA (North American Die Casting Association). The simulator uses virtual reality to enable die casting operators and other personnel to learn about equipment on the shop floor, learn what happens inside the machine when parameters are changed, and practice dealing with issues as they are encountered out on the shop floor. The simulator is entering its final year of development and will be distributed to die casters through NADCA to improve the capabilities and understanding of the die casting workforce.
