VP of Steel Founders Society of America Educates PNW

On February 28th, the Executive Vice President of the Steel Founders’ Society of America, Raymond W. Monroe, presented a seminar on “Strategic Technology Directions for Steel” in the CIVS Theater. The seminar was well attended by Purdue Northwest engineering students and covered a variety of topics related to steel technology including future workforce, automation, AI, machine learning, economics, and trade.

Mr. Monroe has served as Executive Vice President of the Steel Founders’ Society of America for over 30 years since 1988 and has authored many technical publications. His talk was both passionate and educational and inspired numerous questions from students. Steel is the world’s second-largest commodity after crude oil. It is 15 times the size of all other metal markets combined in terms of metric tons and it is worth twice their value. Raymond Monroe relayed that significance very clearly.
