SUBJECT: Accepting the credit recommendations contained in the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Forces

WHEREAS: Article III, Section A, of the Constitution of the Faculty of Purdue University Northwest grants to the Faculty “the general power and responsibility to adopt policies, regulations, and procedures needed to achieve the educational objectives of Purdue University Northwest and promote the general welfare of those involved in Purdue University Northwest’s educational processes,” and

WHEREAS: Article III, Section B/2, grants to the Faculty the authority to “review and approve the general requirements for the curricula of Purdue University Northwest leading toward undergraduate academic degrees,” and

WHEREAS: Article III, Section B/4, grants to the Faculty the authority to “develop curricula and course content,” and

WHEREAS: The Faculty of Purdue University Northwest is concerned that students who are veterans of the armed forces be treated in a fair manner and receive the academic credits to which they are duly entitled from their service to our country, and

WHEREAS: The American Council on Education conducts rigorous and widely recognized reviews of all armed forces training programs and occupational specialties to determine their credit and content equivalencies in college and university programs, and

WHEREAS: The American Council on Education publishes its credit recommendations in its Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Forces,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: Effective immediately upon the passage of this resolution by the PNW Faculty Senate, Purdue University Northwest will accept the credit recommendations contained in the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Forces when and where these recommendations are academically appropriate to the course and curricular requirements of the degree programs it offers.
