Senate Action and Date:

  • For Discussion, 3/9/2018;

Whereas, the faculty of Purdue University Northwest have great concern for the academic integrity of Purdue University courses and degree programs; and

Whereas, the Constitution of Purdue University Northwest gives the faculty “the general power and responsibility to adopt policies, regulations, and procedures needed to achieve the educational objectives of Purdue University Northwest and promote the general welfare of those involved in Purdue University Northwest’s educational processes” (III.A); and

Whereas, the faculty of Purdue University Northwest are concerned about the apparent lack of faculty oversight for the curriculum and faculty of the Kaplan entity now known as Purdue University Global; and

Whereas, the faculty of Purdue University Northwest have not been directly included in the discussions regarding the Kaplan acquisition and the possible ramifications of this on existing or future online course and program offerings by Purdue University Northwest;

Therefore, be it resolved that the faculty Senate of Purdue University Northwest supports the West Lafayette University Senate’s concerns about this acquisition;

And, be it resolved, that the faculty Senate of Purdue University Northwest supports the West Lafayette University Senate’s attempts to insure proper academic oversight for any academic endeavors associated with the Purdue name.
