FSD 20-18: Resolution on a Proposal to Reorganize Departments within the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences

Moved to action and Approved, February 12, 2021

Whereas: The Purdue University Northwest Senate received and discussed a proposal from the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences to implement a reorganization of the college

Whereas: One of the proposed departments is a merger of the disciplines of History, Philosophy, Political Science and Economics

Whereas: One of the proposed departments is a merger of the disciplines of World Languages and English

Whereas: The proposals were referred to the Education Policy Committee and the Committee was tasked with giving the Senate the benefit of its advice on this issue, and

Whereas: A CHESS Council survey of the faculty in the affected disciplines found a majority of faculty surveyed in those disciplines support this merger

Be it Resolved: At the conclusion of the Committee’s discussions, it was decided that Education Policy Committee encourages the College of Humanities, Education, & Social Sciences to go forward with making new merged departments: The Department of English & World Languages and the Department of History, Philosophy, World Politics, & Economics.
