CIVS Research Associate Professor Tyamo Okosun lectured at the 26th McMaster University Blast Furnace Ironmaking Course organized by the Steel Research Centre at McMaster University on May 12th. The course is designed to present “state-of-the-art” knowledge of the blast furnace system and operation to educate attendees in the fields of refractories, raw materials, equipment, and operation. Dr. Okosun presented alongside industry experts from Algoma Steel, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Cleveland-Cliffs, Gerdau, Stelco, U. S. Steel, and more. His presentation covered facets of the computational blast furnace modeling work undertaken at CIVS and the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium, including a discussion of the modeling techniques, validation, and applied research results in the field of blast furnace ironmaking, including a discussion of DOE-funded development on the new Integrated Virtual Blast Furnace ongoing at CIVS.

McMaster University Blast Furnace Ironmaking Course is designed to present “state-of-the-art” knowledge of the systems to operators, researchers, and suppliers of refractories, raw materials, and equipment to the industry. The course content is continuously updated by expert lecturers. For more information about the course, please visit: https://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/training-courses.
