On May 1, the DOE H2RF project team gathered at the Linde Engineering Americas – Tonawanda facility in New York to observe a firing test of the flameless burner. The burner is designed for using CH4/H2 fuel in the Gerdau Monroe Special Steel reheating furnace. The test included operations under normal natural gas-fired conditions, as well as with hydrogen fuel. Linde also hosted a tour of the facility, including their combustion laboratory and fabrication facilities.

The tour was organized by Rafat Hirmiz (R&D Metals Applications Engineer) and Joe Maiolo (R&D Associate Director, Metals Applications) from Linde. CIVS team members included Armin Silaen (CIVS Associate Director of Operations), Kyle Toth (CIVS Senior Research Engineer), Nick Walla (CIVS Senior Research Engineer), and Veronica Pitt-Payne (CIVS Undergraduate Research Assistant).
