group at Cleveland-CliffsThanks to Cleveland-Cliffs Indiana Harbor for hosting a plant tour for PNW Provost Marie Mora and other leaders and CIVS staff on October 10.  The visit started with a presentation, featuring an overview of the Company and the plant, followed by a virtual plant tour developed in collaboration between Indiana Harbor and CIVS. An eye-opening tour provided exciting, first-hand experience on iron and steel making processes, including visiting IH #7 blast furnace, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, as well as a walking tour of the 80” Hot Strip Mill. During the visit, PNW leaders had lively and insightful discussions with Indiana Harbor managers and PNW Alumni in various topics, including the industrial needs for the workforce skills.

The PNW visitors also included Matt Wells (Chief Engagement Officer), Catharine Olsen (Chief of Staff to the Chancellor), Alejandra Castillo (Senior Fellow for Economic Development), CIVS Director Chenn Zhou, who coordinated the visit, as well as CIVS research staff: Kyle Toth, Mario Herrera-Ortega and Prasanth Nair. The PNW team truly enjoyed the tour and greatly appreciate the efforts and hospitality of the managers and engineers, especially to Chrissy Foreman (Community Relations Representative) and John Tessling (Section Manager – Rolling/Heating/Roll Shop Operations).

Cleveland-Cliffs is a charter member of the SMSVC and has a long history of close partnership with PNW CIVS.
