Three CIVS Research Papers Presented at IMECE Conference

Orlando UgarteThree CIVS research papers were presented at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) in Memphis, TN on November 17-20.

Orlando Ugarte, CIVS Research Scientist, presented “CFD Modeling of Steel-Slag Interactions in Industrial EAF Refining Operations”. Co-authors include CIVS Associate Director for Research Ty Okosun, and CIVS Director Chenn Zhou.

Armin Silaen, CIVS Associate Director for Operations, presented “Numerical Simulation of Heat Transfer and Solidification in a Twin-Slab Caster”. Co-authors include CIVS Ph.D. student Dianzhi Meng, CIVS Graduate Research Assistant Sai Bhuvanesh Nandipati, U. S. Steel Rudolf Moravec, and CIVS Director Chenn Zhou.

Kyle Toth, CIVS Sr. Research Engineer, presented “Virtual Crane Training-Enhancing Safety and Skill Development in the Steel Industry”. Co-authors include CIVS Research Engineer Rohit Kumar Reddy Kovvuri, CIVS Sr. Research Scientist John “Jack” Moreland, U. S. Steel Jeffrey Maxfield, Charter Steel Henry Mitchell, and CIVS Director Chenn Zhou.

ASME’s International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) is the only event where research leaders from academia, government, and industry converge to make connections and share insights for innovation across engineering disciplines. This year’s IMECE emphasized the critical role of mechanical engineering in addressing global challenges through innovation and resilience.
