CIVS & MCE Host Distinguished Speaker Seminar – Subbarao Majety

CIVS had the pleasure of co-sponsoring a Distinguished Speaker Seminar with the PNW MCE department on February 20.
Subbarao Majety, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Practice presented “System Reliability: From Design to Development” to CIVS and PNW students, staff, and faculty. His talk was very well received and concluded with a productive Q&A session.
Systems are expected to perform at a specified reliability level. Such expectations are realized when they are designed for the reliability, manufactured with quality meeting the reliability, and then tested for the reliability before deployment. There are challenges at the (a) Design level, (b) Manufacturing level, and (c) Deployment level. Ensuring reliability at each level poses many engineering problems which will be touched upon in this presentation.
Subbarao V. Majety is currently a faculty in the Department of Mechanical & Civil Engineering, Purdue University Northwest. He earned his PhD from University of Pittsburgh in Industrial Engineering. His research is primarily focused on Reliability Allocation, Reliability Testing using Integer programming and Heuristic Optimization. His research is published in Operations Research, IIE Transactions, IJPR, and IERC proceedings.
