CIVS Welcomed DOE-ITO and National Labs Reps

group of people in CIVS theaterOn August 24, the DOE Industrial Technology Office (ITO) Strategic Analysis Team had a productive visit to CIVS. The visitors included Brian Ray and Joe Cresko from DOE-ITO; Sarang Supekar, Yongxian Zhu, David Thierry, and Tom Schmitt from Argonne National Laboratory; Sam Reese, Alberta (Birdie) Carpenter and Julien Walzberg from the National Laboratory of the Rockies; and Sachin Nimbalkar and Ikenna Okeke from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The DOE-ITO team collaborates on material flow analyses across U.S. iron and steel plants, industrial circularity, energy systems modeling, smart manufacturing, supply chain optimization and other related areas.

The CIVS director and staff presented an overview of CIVS and SMSVC, highlighting the integration of advanced digital technologies and their impact on the steel industry. The visit also included hands-on demonstrations in the visualization lab, showcasing CIVS’s state-of-the-art technologies and projects related to iron- and steelmaking processes. The group also engaged in lively discussions about potential opportunities for future collaboration.
