Department of English and World Languages
This is a fully accredited Indiana secondary education in English Language Arts licensure program with plentiful connections to local schools.
English Teaching Concentration Curriculum
As a student in the English teaching concentration, you’ll take a balance of general education courses, College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences core courses and English courses. Your teaching concentration courses are offered in conjunction with the School of Education and Counseling to prepare you for a career in teaching.
Plan your future in our first-year experience course. Then work one-on-one with caring, accomplished faculty mentors and grow your network by connecting with alumni and community members. Our recently revised curriculum emphasizes project-based learning and experiences, including group work and hands-on projects.
Begin with a first-year seminar for English majors as well as writing, literature and education courses.

Meet the Faculty
Associate Professor of Linguistics
I am an associate professor of linguistics and founding director of the English as a Second Language Program. In addition to directing the ESL program, I have also taught courses in linguistics, history of English, grammar and writing since I joined Purdue University Northwest in 2007.
Professor of English
Colette Morrow is the Director of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies and a Professor of English. She is the former president of the National Women’s Studies Association, which is the only nationwide academic professional association in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies in the US.
Professor of English
Jane E. Rose is a professor of English in the Department of English. Her research and teaching focus on American literature, including women’s literature and studies in gender, race and ethnicity.
