Students in the construction management engineering technology program visited the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, Training Center. The events included a presentation on the Operating Engineers and their role in the construction industry, how unions approach training, and hands-on experience with the responsibilities of heavy equipment operators and construction material inspectors.
Simulators allow for apprentices to get used to the equipment without the risk of damaging it. The students found the simulators more difficult to run than the actual equipment.

Students are collecting field data using geographic information systems (GIS) to build geographic and built layers for a Building Information Model. Working outside of the classroom and in the field provides an opportunity to extend learning and develop career essential skills.
