Guide to Living in Home2Suites

A Home(2Suites) Away from home!

The Department of Housing and Residential Education staff and student leaders are excited about starting the new academic year with you!

We are committed to creating and sustaining an environment that encourages students’ academic success as well as enhances their personal growth. Our staff members focus on creating and developing educational programs, social activities, and community service opportunities that promote academic success and engage students outside of the classroom.

The Home2Suites community and the Purdue University Northwest campuses are truly enhanced by our students’ enthusiasm, leadership and participation. Living on campus is one of the most important decisions that you will make. The value of the experience will truly be what you make of it! Students who choose to get involved while pursuing a degree typically excel in their academic studies.

Our staff and student leaders are looking forward to providing residents with a great experience this year! We encourage students to become involved in activities, apply for leadership opportunities and find ways to give back to the Housing community and the Purdue University Northwest campus.

If you have any questions or wish to make a comment about your accommodations, our staff would be happy to assist you. You may also reach us at housing@pnw.edu or by calling (219) 989-4150.

The following information offered in this guide is provided to help you prepare for the next exciting step in your academic career! Please review the information carefully and contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Wishing you a truly successful academic year,

-The Department of Housing and Residential Education Staff

House Rules

Please note that all rules and regulations for the University Village community are noted in the HRE Resident Handbook. Please take note of these specific ones we have outlined below:

  • Smoking is not allowed in the Home2Suites community or anywhere on campus.
  • Alcohol is not allowed in University Housing except in the graduate student wing in Griffin Hall in rooms designated for that community.  Other than the designated rooms on the graduate wing, Residents and guests may not possess or consume alcohol in or around University Housing.
  • Always keep your PNW ID and keys with you at all times.  YOU MUST SHOW YOUR ID EACH TIME YOU ENTER THE OTHER RESIDENCE HALLS on campus.  Lockouts can be very expensive for those who continuously forget their keys/cards.
  • Be courteous to your suite mates and neighbors.  Keep in mind the type of learning environment you would like to live in.  Courtesy hours are in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Check your PNW email address OFTEN!  UV residents are responsible for the correspondence that they receive in their mailboxes and PNW email addresses.
  • Be Civil.  Residents are expected to be respectful and civil to one another.  We can agree to disagree without violating civility standards.
  • Cooperation is expected and truly appreciated.  Residents are expected to follow the directives of student and full-time staff members during non-emergency and emergency situations.
  • Safety is important!  Residents may not prop open any exterior/security door of the Home2Suites community.  If you do choose to prop open your room door, please ensure that your roommate agrees and that someone is home and aware so that the safety of your living environment is not compromised.  During power outages, apartment doors are not allowed to be propped.

Emergency Protocols

To ensure your safety, the Housing Staff at University Village and Home2Suites has been trained on how to respond to emergency procedures. During your first floor meeting, the RAs will cover these procedures in length so please make sure you attend this meeting.

ALERT ME! To help you stay up to date with current weather conditions and other emergency situations, please sign up for ALERT ME before you arrive to campus. “ALERT ME!” is PNW’s text messaging service that provides the capability to communicate brief, urgent information/notifications that affect the status of campus operations to students, faculty, staff and the community.”  To sign up for the service, please visit the following website: Alert Me.
